January 30, 2010 Fellow Red Warriors, I?m conducting a survey to find out how many of you might be interested in purchasing a copy or copies of either or both of the 1969-1970 battalion year books that were produced in Vietnam. One is dated 1969 (black cover); the other is dated 1969-1970 (blue cover). Over the years I?ve been asked by several Association members if I could get the books printed. Only recently have Jim Daniels and I been able to work out a way to get copies of the books printed in their original format and colors, both hardbound. I am not looking for a commitment, just an feel for how many to order initially. With the costs of printing, binding and shipping, it is estimated that the price will be in the $35.00 to $40.00 range, plus an approximate $5.00 shipping fee.
If you think you might want to purchase one or both, please contact me either at 815-369-2330 or thearmyspast (at) mchsi (dot) com Comments on the 2010 reunion
I don't think that is possible to schedule a reunion at a time that works for everyone. Someone always has a conflict. I know that I had three different places to be when our last reunion was scheduled. In my case, mid to late September for 2010 fits well into my schedule. I have a lawn care business and simply can't get away during late spring and summer. By September 17th I can take a few days off.
Beach Cove sounds like a great location.
I have no problem with the date or time. I'll go whenever. Regarding the reunion at Myrtle Beach, SC in September 2010, that is a perfect time for us, and we vote to keep it at that time. Thank you, Cleveland & Judy Rife B. Company - Vietnam Vet.
Myrtle Beach in September 2010 is a great time for my wife and I.
Thanks.
I don't have the number of veterans that came but think it was about 30. Most of them
brought a wife if they have one. Edward Gregory lost his wife six weeks ago but he came anyway. Joe Fegan made it because of people who donated towards his cost of the
flight. There were three new faces there. Cleveland Rife, Tom Kerns and Lou Perry.
Capt Childs did not come, nor did Ken Henkel, Jack Leninger, Larry Burney and Bill Warner.
I am fine with the dates Debbie set-up. Sooner or later is fine by me. She did a great job on this Evansville reunion. Ken
I would like to say that I think the next reunion for me is all about being with John Cribb. I think that the majority of the guys feel the same. I really hope that you will be there next time - September 17th through the 19th at Myrtle Beach. The casino boat or the Shriners being in town are not a concern for me - but I do have to say that I think that the guys that served in Vietnam in my mind take precedence over anyone.
I was so impressed with the job that Debbie Rice did at the last reunion that I would not question any decision that Debbie made including date, time, place, etc.

We have a large auditorium we use for movies, as well as memorial services and other large gatherings. As is the custom back in the States, we stood and snapped to attention when the National Anthem began before the main feature. All was going as planned until about three-quarters of the way through the National Anthem the music stopped. Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back in the State's? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments; and everyone would sit down and call for a movie. Of course, that is, if they had stood for the National Anthem in the first place. Here, the 1,000 Soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed forward. The music started again. The Soldiers continued to quietly stand at attention. And again, at the same point, the music stopped. What would you expect to happen? Even here I would imagine laughter, as everyone finally sat down and expected the movie to start. But here, you could have heard a pin drop. Every Soldier continued to stand at attention. Suddenly there was a lone voice, then a dozen, and quickly the room was filled with the voices of a thousand Soldiers, finishing where the recording left off: "And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?" It was the most inspiring moment I have had here in Iraq. I wanted you to know what kind of Soldiers are serving you here. Written by Chaplain Jim Higgins on 5/14/07.LSA Anaconda is at the Balad Airport in Iraq, north of Bagdad. Honors given to Bravo Co.Vietnam Veterans Reunion Ride By On September 12Chapter 6 members participated in a special ?ride by? for Army Veterans from the 4th Division, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry, B Company which fought in Vietnam. The surviving members of the company, which suffered extensive casualties in May of 1969, have held annual reunions for the past four years. This year?s was at the Holiday Inn on Highway 41 at Lynch Road. The men had not been told ahead of time why they were to gather at the front of the hotel, only that a surprise was waiting for them. From a RT member"After we rode a quick pass of the group, we looped the hotel and then dismounted in front of the vets. Jerry spoke to the men briefly, thanking them on behalf of Rolling Thunder for their service to our nation and welcoming them home. We all walked down a receiving line, shaking their hands and hugging them and their families as we individually thanked them and welcomed them home. One vet in the group commented that they?d ?never gotten a welcome home like this one after the war.? There were many tears, both from them and us. Everyone who took part was moved by the experience. It was truly an honor to meet these men and be able to express to them our gratitude for their service and sacrifices." |
